Weekly Wild - Spring rewards the ones who trained in the dark.

Hi Reader,

It's that time of the year... everyone is on their "winter arc". Whatever that means...
Let me break down what it means to me..

Every season asks something different of us.
Summer is time for adventure, speed, fun and lots of training.
Autumn usually has a big ultra in it, followed by a reflective restful period.
Spring wakes you up.
But winter…
Winter is where the quiet work happens.

Most people try to fight winter: hiding from cold, chasing comfort, waiting for longer days to “start fresh.” But nature doesn’t wait.
Winter is a season of building. Thickening. Deepening.
It’s when trees root down, so they can bloom in spring.

Animals grow stronger coats.
The world prepares quietly for the next explosion of growth.

You can do the same.
Winter is the perfect training arc: the season for slow endurance, heavier strength, longer mobility sessions, and deep recovery.

That sets you up for a completely different spring.
Push hard now, and you’ll be miles ahead when the light returns.
(When I say miles ahead, I don't mean ahead of others, but ahead of where you were last year in spring).

Ignore the season, and you’ll start from scratch.. like everyone else.. when March comes around.

Your food should change too.
Warm, grounding meals. Seasonal carbs. More protein.
I've got a winter meal prep video
here if you're interested.
Less cold salads, more broths, stews, roots.
Eat like someone preparing for effort, not shrinking away from it.

If you let winter shape you instead of scare you, it becomes your cheat code.
Because the truth is simple:

Spring rewards the people who trained in the dark.

This week’s tool:
Pick one winter pillar to focus on: endurance, strength, or mobility.
Not all three.
Just one you’ll commit to through January and February.

This week’s action:
Schedule three sessions for next week that align with that pillar, and treat them like a promise, not a plan.

See you next Wednesday.

In 2025 I followed Alice across Spain. She was attempting one of the most brutal solo endurance races in Europe. 1,500 km through the desert. Seven days. Self-sustained. France to Portugal on her bike. Desert Lilies is the film we made together. It is about what happens to a woman when she decides to go further than anyone thinks she should. About endurance. About silence. About the desert doing what deserts do.Watch the film and trailer here:https://f.io/Gt68ofw2 Produced by Alice Segre and...

Weekly wild #10

Hey Reader, Everyone wants speed. Faster splits.Explosive workouts.Impressive sessions. Nobody gets excited about slow calf raises. Or 10 minutes of mobility.Or easy aerobic Ks.Or controlled single-leg strength. But that’s the work that actually changes you. Social media rewards intensity. Sprints.Heavy lifts.Sweat.Collapse on the floor. It looks impressive. But the real separators are built quietly. The boring work builds tendon strength. It builds joint control. It builds aerobic depth.It...

Weekly Wild #9 - Let your body organise itself

Hi Reader, A few years ago, while running across Europe, I learned something unexpected from bison and frogs. During Run for Europe, I spent time with the team at Rewilding Europe in Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, and Croatia. Rewilding Europe is a conservation organization that restores natural ecosystems across Europe by bringing back missing species, repairing landscapes, and letting nature regenerate itself with minimal human control. In Romania, they studied a landscape for years before...
