Weekly Wild - Take the stairs (yes, that's also zone 2)

Hi Reader,

There are two types of runners.
The first is the one who can train 10, 12, even 15 hours a week or more ..
Long runs, double sessions, steady Ks every day.
If that’s you, great.. your engine grows through volume, and you're probably an elite runner.

But most of us aren’t that runner.
We work. We travel. We take care of people.
And we get 4-10 hours of training in a week.

If that’s you, your strategy has to change. You don’t have the luxury of junk miles.
Every session needs a purpose.

In short, you should run slower than you think, and sprint faster than you think. But there is another cheat code that I'll tell you in a second.

Your easy runs should be embarrassingly slow. Slow enough to breathe through your nose. Slow enough to have a conversation. Slow enough that your body doesn’t panic.

Those miles build durability, not ego. But you also need speed.

Short sprints, Strides. Fast hill repeats.
The kind of efforts that wake your nervous system up and remind your legs how to be explosive.

This combination, very slow and very fast, is a cheat code for the busy athlete.

And the rest?
That’s where your potential actually hides:

Daily Zone 2 (Not running):
Walking to the store, carrying groceries, taking the stairs, choosing movement over convenience. If your heart rate is slightly elevated, that’s Zone 2.
You can accumulate an hour a day without even calling it “training.” That's HUGE.

Do all of this with intention, and you’ll build a body that’s far more resilient than someone who just logs miles.

This week’s tool:
Don’t overthink Zone 2.
Take the stairs.
Take a phone call hile walking.
Walk up a hill on purpose.
Carry your groceries instead of driving.
All of that counts.
All of that builds your base.

This week’s action:
Replace one “lazy choice” this week with a Zone 2 choice.
Walk instead of ride.
Carry instead of roll.
Climb instead of wait.
These small decisions — accumulated daily — build the engine you’re chasing.

See you next Wednesday.

In 2025 I followed Alice across Spain. She was attempting one of the most brutal solo endurance races in Europe. 1,500 km through the desert. Seven days. Self-sustained. France to Portugal on her bike. Desert Lilies is the film we made together. It is about what happens to a woman when she decides to go further than anyone thinks she should. About endurance. About silence. About the desert doing what deserts do.Watch the film and trailer here:https://f.io/Gt68ofw2 Produced by Alice Segre and...

Weekly wild #10

Hey Reader, Everyone wants speed. Faster splits.Explosive workouts.Impressive sessions. Nobody gets excited about slow calf raises. Or 10 minutes of mobility.Or easy aerobic Ks.Or controlled single-leg strength. But that’s the work that actually changes you. Social media rewards intensity. Sprints.Heavy lifts.Sweat.Collapse on the floor. It looks impressive. But the real separators are built quietly. The boring work builds tendon strength. It builds joint control. It builds aerobic depth.It...

Weekly Wild #9 - Let your body organise itself

Hi Reader, A few years ago, while running across Europe, I learned something unexpected from bison and frogs. During Run for Europe, I spent time with the team at Rewilding Europe in Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, and Croatia. Rewilding Europe is a conservation organization that restores natural ecosystems across Europe by bringing back missing species, repairing landscapes, and letting nature regenerate itself with minimal human control. In Romania, they studied a landscape for years before...
